Daithí – Bio

Daithí

From: Kilkenny
Instruments: Keyboard, saxophone, harmonica, tin whistle, guitar, mandolin, vocals

Daithí is a Gaelscoil teacher from Kilkenny. His life in music began in primary school when he was introduced to the saxophone. Since then, Daithí’s musical experience has been an eclectic mix, ranging from playing the National Concert Hall in Dublin, to festivals with former band, Indecision, such as Sea Sessions and Electric Picnic, and of course to pubs in the middle of nowhere (He maintains that the best pint of Guinness is in Hacketstown, Co. Carlow!). Daithí has loved singing since before he could talk and is self-taught on piano, guitar and a range of other bits and bobs. His musical hero is Jason Mraz but he takes inspiration from a wide variety of artists such as Ed Sheeran, Joshua Radin, James Morrison, and on a more Irish front, Christy Moore, Damien Rice and Moving Hearts.

Daithí’s multi-instrumentalism and natural musical prowess brings a touch of class to the band’s set up. His pitch perfect harmonies and eloquent sax riffs along with his soft vocal tone creates an illustrious dynamic and an atmosphere of musicianship that raises the bar for everyone else.

Daithí is a massive rugby fan and despite being from Kilkenny has followed his Waterford heritage in supporting Munster. He has played rugby for many years, usually as a back. He has a great love for all things Mexican and aspires to one day be able to grow a full length moustache.

Cé As: Cill Chainnigh
Uirlisí: Méarchlár, sacsafón, orgán béil, feadóg stáin, giotár, maindilín, glór

Is múinteoir Ghaelscoile Daithí as Cill Chainnigh, agus tá sé cúig bliain is fiche d’aois. Tugadh an ceol isteach in shaol nuair a bhí sé ar bhunscoil agus tugadh an sacsafón dó. Ó shin, bhí meascán mór eicléicteach de thaithí ceoil aige, ó chasadh sa gCeoláras Náisiúnta, do chasadh ag feilte ceoil mar aon le Sea Sessions agus Electric Picnic lena iar-bhanna Indecision, agus dár ndóigh do chasadh i neart tithe tabhairne sna háiteanna is iargúlta. Dar leis, tá an pionta Guinness is fearr in Éirinn le fáil i mBaile Haicéid, Co. Cheatharlach. Thaitin canadh amhráin i gcónaí leis óna thosaigh sé ag caint, agus mhúin sé an pianó agus an giotár dó féin. Is é Jason Mraz an laoch ceoil is fearr leis, ach faigheann sé inspioráid ó réimse mhór d’amhránaithe ar nós Ed Sheeran, Joshua Radin, James Morrisson, agus ó bhannaíceoil Éireannacha ar nós Christy Moore, Damien Rice agus Moving Hearts.

Tugann uile-uirliseoireacht agus cumas cheoil Dhaithí éagsúlacht don bhanna. Cruthaíonn sé dinimic saibhir lena armóin fhoirfe agus glór mín, agus ardaíonn sé caighdeáin an cheoil do chuile dhuine eile sa mbanna i gcónaí.

Is breá le Daithí rugbaí, agus in ainneoin gur as Cill Chainnigh é, coinníonn sé lena chuid oidhreacht Phort Láirge agus leanann sé le foireann na Mumhan. D’imir sé rugbaí le blianta, de ghnáth mar chualaí. Tá an-dúil aige i ngach rud a bhaineann le Meicsiceo, agus tá brionglóid aige go mbeidh sé in ann croiméal ceart a fhásadh.

Seo Linn, is fundamentally a combination of two things that I really love; music and Gaeilge. Having the chance to bring this fusion of life and culture to an audience on an increasingly wider platform is not only an opportunity, it’s a gift.

Go bunúsach, is comhcheangal é Seo Linn de dhá rud a bhfuil dúil ollmhór agam iontu: ceol agus Gaeilge. Ní hamháin gur deis í an comhnascadh de shaol is de chultúr a thabhairt d’ardán atá i gcónaí ag leathnú – is bronntanas atá ann.
