Kevin – Bio

Kevin

From: Kilkenny
Instruments: Button accordion, bodhrán, floor tom, backing vocals

Kevin grew up in Kilkenny City, just down the road from Keith. Irish culture has always been a huge part of Kevin’s life. He’s been playing music since he was handed a tin-whistle at 4 years of age. At the age of 6, Kevin began lessons on the button accordion and by the age of 11, had an All-Ireland solo title under his belt. He was heavily involved with his local Comhaltas branch and went on several concert tours all over Europe, and the USA. Accordion players like Joe Burke, Bobby Gardener, and of course his own teacher, the man who made his accordion, Martin Connolly have been massive influences on Kevin’s accordion playing. Groups like Lúnasa and Kasír have also left their mark along with more popular influences like Mumford and Sons and Foo Fighters.

Kevin’s strong manipulation of a popular riff is entrancing and has been a focal point around which the band has formed its core sound. He has an innate ability to fill out a verse with mesmerising chord play and provides invaluable bass vocal harmony lines that expand our vocal presence.

Kev’s talents stretch past that of the accordion. He has perfected the art of the pouted selfie and prides himself on his whiskey sours. His shoulders are currently being reviewed to becoming the eighth wonder of the world.

Kevin

Cé As: Cill Chainnigh
Uirlisí Ceoil: Bosca ceoil, bodhrán, tam urláir, cúlghlór

Tá Kevin dhá bliain is fiche d’aois, agus tógadh é i gcathair Chill Chainnigh, síos an bóthair ó Keith. Bhí ról mór i gcónaí ag cultúr na hÉireann i saol Kevin. Bhí sé ag casadh ceoil óna tugadh feadóg stáin dó nuair a bhí sé ceithre bliana d’aois. Nuair a bhí sé sé bliana d’aois, thosaigh sé ceachtanna don bhosca ceoil, agus faoin am a bhí sé aon bhliain déag d’aois, bhí gradam Chraobh na hÉireann bainte amach aige ar an mbosca. Bhí páirt mhór aige leis an mbrainse áitiúil do Chomhaltas, agus chas sé i roinnt ceolchoirmeacha ar fud na hEorpa agus ar fud na Stáit Aontaithe. Chuaigh seinnteoirí bhosca ceoil mar aon le Joe Burke, Bobby Gardener agus dár ndóigh a mhúinteoir agus an fear a chruthaigh a bhosca ceoil, Martin Connolly, i bhfeidhm ar a stíl ceoil. Faigheann sé inspioráid ó ghrúpaí ar nós Lúnasa agus Kasír, chomh maith le tionchar nua-aimseartha ar nós Mumford and Sons agus Foo Fighters.

Tá an chaoi a n-athraíonn Kevin riffeanna coitianta in amhráin fíor-mheallacach, agus bunaíodh an-chuid dár bhfuaim ar seo. Tá cumas inbheirthe aige véarsa a líonadh le cordaí mealltacha, agus cuireann a dord-armóin le cúlghlór go mór lenár láithreacht.

Ní hé an ceol an t-aon scil atá ag Kevin. Tá cáil ar a chuid féiníní le pout foirfe ar a bhéal, agus bíonn an-tóir ar a chuid whiskey sours. Tá léirmheas á dhéanamh ar a ghuaillí leithne mar an t-ochtú iontas na cruinne.

I always thought I would play in traditional music groups, and sessions until my fingers gave out, and I will, but I never imagined I would have the incredible opportunity to experiment with Gaeilge and popular music on such a grand scale.

Cheap mé i gcónaí go gcasfadh mé le grúpaí ceoil traidisiúnta agus i seisiúin go dtí go dtitfeadh mó mhéara díom, ach níor cheap mé riamh go mbeadh an deis dochreidte sin agam oibrigh le Gaeilge agus le pop-cheol ar mhórchóir sin.
