Stiofán – Bio

Stiofán

From: Lecarrow, Roscommon
Instruments: Guitar, vocals

Stiofán is a proud Roscommon man living in Dublin and has worked as a Gaelscoil teacher. His interest in Irish culture and language was fostered during his teens from annual trips to Conamara. It is here, also that he developed his love for music. He bought his first guitar from his first cheque at 17 and has never looked back. His musical influences are vast – ranging from country to reggae, traditional to rock and always with a singer—songwriter feel. He accredits his some of his musical idols as Kris Kristofferson, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Ed Sheeran and Luke Kelly.

Stiofán’s rustic, powerful voice, oozes confidence and gives a firm, melodic quality to the band’s verses and chorus’. He could charm the arse of a Shetland terrier and uses this to great effect to interact with the audience. His strong and rhythmic strumming style is very distinctive and is part of the very foundation that bridges the gap between the band’s traditional Irish style and the modern popular influence.

Stiofán is secretly known to have one of the world’s most impressive collection of awful woolly jumpers, and growing. Also a major secret is his love for GAA and in particular Roscommon football, which he neglects to mention every 25 minutes or so. He has also been known to sleep through a glass of water being poured over him.

Cé as: An Leithcheathrú, Ros Comáin
Uirlisí: Giotár, príomh-ghlór

Ros Comáineach bródúil is ea Stiofán a bhfuil cónaí air I mBaile Átha Cliath, agus tá taithí aige ag obair i nGaelscoil. Cothaíodh a chuid suime i dteanga agus i gcultúr na hÉireann nuair a bhí sé ina dhéagóir i gConamara. Is ann a fuair sé a chuid grá do cheol. Chaith sé a chéad seic ar ghiotár, agus níor bhreathnaigh sé siar ariamh! Is breá leis chuile chineál ceoil – ó cheol tíre go reggae, ó cheol traidisiúnta go rac. Cuid de na laochra ceoil is mó atá aige ná Kris Kristofferson, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Ed Sheeran agus Luke Kelly.

Tá láidreacht is muinín ag a ghlór, a thugann croí do cheol an bhanna. Chuirfeadh sé cluain ar chailleach, rud a sheasann go mór dó agus é ag labhairt le daoine ar ardáin mhóra. Tá stíl éagsúil aige le plancadh a ghiotáir, agus líonann sé sin an bhearna idir stíl thraidisiúnta an bhanna agus tionchar nua-aimseartha.

Tá sé de rún ag Stiofán an bailliúchán geansaí olla gránna is mó ar domhain a bheith aige, agus é i gcónaí ag méadú. Rún mór atá aige chomh maith ná a ghrá do pheil Ghaelach, agus peil Ros Comáin ach go háirithe – rud nach deir sé leis an saol agus a mháthair chuile leathuair a chloig nó mar sin. Tá sé de chleas aige fanacht ina chodladh agus crúiscín uisce á dhoirteadh ar a cheann.

A language needs to be relevant to its users. My goal as a musician with Seo Linn is to provide entertainment and fun through the medium of music for anyone interested in listening. Irish culture and language are very dear to my heart and it would be magnificent opportunity for me to do something progressive and positive for the modern sustenance of both.

Caithfidh teanga ‘bheith ábharthach dá húsáideoirí. Mo sprioc mar cheoltóir le Seo Linn ná siamsaíocht agus spraoi a sholáthar trí mheán an cheoil d’éinne a bhfuil suim aige nó aici éisteacht leis. Tá áit speisialta i mo chroí do chultúr is teanga na hÉireann, agus ba dheis ollásach domsa é rud feabhsaithe agus dearfach a dhéanamh don chothú nua-aimseartha don phéire.
