Listen to ‘Siúil a Rún’ here:
The Song.
Seo Linn are back with a bang.
Siúil a Rún is a piece that has been in the song tradition of Ireland for hundreds of years. It is a song of angst as a lover laments her partner’s absense due to a war. She is lonesome for him and fearful of his fate.
All she wants is for his safe return.
In Seo Linn’s stunning contemporary rendition, they interpret anger at the concept of war. The rhythmic tribal percussion and the soaring instrumentation implies this anger and raises the heartrate of the listener in an attempt to engage them emotionally. Coupling this with the gentle carressing of the original lament, the listener is truly brought for a journey. It’s not often a song can fully encapsulate someone as this version of Siúil a Rún does. A five minute emotional thrill.
The song speaks of the futility of war. As we approach the centenary of the beginning of the civil war in Ireland, Siúil a Rún takes new meaning within a new context. “I’d sell my rock, I’d sell my reel, I’d sell my only spinning wheel, to take away the sword of steel” is a call to finish the madness at any cost - something that was undoubtedly felt in abundance during the brutality of that time.
Listen, engage and enjoy.

The international touring scene beckoned for Seo Linn after continued domestic success. Headlining festivals in Italy, Australia and across the U.S., Seo Linn began to rapidly widen their fanbase. Their reputation as a quality headlining act preceded them as they consistently stunned their audiences from festival to festival. 2020 saw Seo Linn’s tour of Australia cut short due to the pandemic crisis. All was not lost however as the focus shifted to upskilling, home studios and remote creativity.
